John Robert Eaton (SN 6503) born at Warracknabeal, was a 20 year old viceman fitter when he enlisted in Ballarat on June 20th 1916. On October 2nd he embarked aboard the Nestor and sailed to England before crossing to France in March 1917 to serve with the 8th Infantry Battalion. In September he suffered severe bomb wounds that fractured his shoulder. He was evacuated to England before being returned to Australia aboard the Corinthic. He disembarked at Melbourne on March 3rd 1918 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on April 11th.
