Biography

Alfred Robert Jones (SN 222) was born in Ballarat and attended the Urquhart Street State School. He was 22 years old, a single gardener when he enlisted September 8th 1914. He was posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne just a few days before Christmas.. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on August 21st 1915, has no known grave, and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, Turkey.
