Maynard Westcott (SN 6364) born at Wallace, was a 21 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 5th 1916. He left Australia aboard the Euripides on September 11th and on December 12th he reached France to serve with the 8th Infantry Battalion. It seems he completed his service without significant incident and possibly the highlight was two weeks leave in Paris soon after the signing of the Armistice. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Darwin, disembarked on July 27th 1919 and was discharged on September 10th. He also enlisted to serve during World War 2.
