Biography

Ernest Roy Stone MM (SN 6346) was born in Ballarat and was a 21 year old potter when he enlisted on 6th July 1916. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked for the Western Front on board the Euripides in September, reaching France in December. His gallantry in battle earned him a Military Medal for 'bravery in the field' before he was killed in action in the Menin Road area on September 20th 1917. He is buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, Belgium.
