Biography

Reginald ‘Rex’ Leonard Molyneux (SN 6546) born in Ballarat, was a 24 year old engineer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 8th 1916. Posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Nestor on October 2nd and reached England on November 16th. In May 1917 he went absent without leave in London for a period of ten weeks until apprehended. A Court Martial fined him 98 days’ pay. With this behind him he crossed to France but on September 26th 1917 he suffered a gunshot wound to his head that caused a depressed fracture. Consequently, he was returned to Australia aboard the Wandilla reaching Melbourne on May 22nd 1918. He was discharged on July 6th 1918 as ‘medically unfit, fractured skull’.
