Biography

Reuben Godfrey Darling (SN 2066) was born in Sheep Hills but enlisted from Ballarat on July 12th 1916 and joined the 39th Infantry Battalion. He was 21 years old, unmarried and working as a bank clerk. He embarked from Melbourne on board the Shropshire in September. He was posted to France in January and promoted to Lance Sergeant. He was killed in action near Passchendaele on October 13th 1927, and his name was recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
