Reuben Godfrey Darling was born in Sheep Hills but enlisted from Ballarat on 12th July 1916. He joined the 39th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 2066. He was 21 years old, unmarried and a bank clerk. During his service he was promoted to Sergeant. He was killed in action near Passchendaele on 13th October 1927, and his name was recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
