John Lawrence Holderhead enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 28 on the 15th of July 1916. He had been born in Ballarat, Victoria, was Married, and was employed as a Miner. He volunteered and was stationed with the 8th Battalion, 21st Reinforcement as Regimental number 6531. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 25th of September 1919. He is buried in the Ballarat (New) Cemetery.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as John L. Holdhead.
