William John Laherty was a married, 37 year old butcher in Mt Egerton when he enlisted on 15 July 1916. He was born in Ballarat. He was posted to 8th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 6551. He was killed in action during the 2nd Battle of Bullecourt on 9th May 1917. His name is on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
