Biography

Born in Clarendon, Victoria and a Labourer by trade, Henry James Bowers was 19 years and single when enlisted on the 24th of July 1916 in the 14th Battalion, 24th Reinforcement, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Private, Number 7205, and was listed as returned to Australia on the 1st of July 1919. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on the 19th of February 1917. On the 29th of April 1917 Lance Corporal reverts to permanent grade of Private. On the 23rd of October 1917 admitted to Hospital for Laryngitis and was listed as returned to Australia per 'Frankfurt' on the 1st of July 1919 and disembarked on the 20th of August 1919. Discharged from 3rd Military District with the termination of period of enlistment on the 27th of September 1919. Tree No.2485
