Henry James Bowers (SN 7205) born at Clarendon, was a 19 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 24th 1916. He embarked on February 19th 1917 aboard the Ballarat and sailed to England. In August 1917 he joined the 14th Infantry Battalion in France. Two months later he was evacuated to hospital in England suffering from laryngitis and it was almost a year before he could return to France, now attached to the 15th Battalion. At war’s end he returned to Australia aboard the Frankfurt, disembarked at Melbourne on August 20th 1919 and was discharged on September 27th.
