William John Stevenson was born in Ballarat, but enlisted from Fitzroy on 4th September 1915. He was 31 years old, unmarried and employed as a sign writer. He joined the 5th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 4896. On 24th September 1918 he died of wounds inflicted in the Mont St Quentin area. He is buried in the La Chapelette British and Indian Cemetery, Peronne, France.
