Biography

Frederick Thomas Stokes was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was married to Sarah Stokes of Kline Street, Ballarat East and was a Dealer when he enlisted with the 39th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement on 19 September 1916 at the age of 43. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A17 Port Lincoln on 20 October 1916. According to his records after joining with the 39th Battalion he was diagnosed with rheumatism, resulting in his returning to Australia on 9 June 19817 and a full medial discharge a month later.
