Biography

Edwin John White (SN 2391) was born in Ballarat and educated at Macarthur Street State School. He enlisted in Ballarat on 2nd October 1916. He was 22 years of age, single, a carriage painter. He was allocated to the 39th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne aboard the Port Lincoln just three weeks later. On 12th October 1917 he was killed in action near Ypres, has no known grave and his name is on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
