Biography

William Robertson was born in Ballarat and was a Clerk by trade when he enlisted in the 39th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement on 4 October 1916 at the age of 44. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A17 Port Lincoln on 20 October 1916. After further training in England he moved to France in May 1917 attached to the 39th Battalion. Two weeks later he was hospitalised with Trench Fever. He was invalided to England then returned to Australia in August 1917.
