Biography

Ernest Albert Taylor was born in Healesville, Victoria, was single and a Labourer when he enlisted from Ballarat with the 8th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement on 6 October 1915 at the age of 25. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on 28 January 1916. According to his record, he transferred to ANZAC police on 3 April 1916 and was admitted to hospital for tonsillitis in July 1916 and again in September. The remainder of his service seems to have been completed without major incident, illness or injury and he returned home to Australia aboard the Benallo on 8 October 1919.

Before his departure to Australia he married Ms Lily Hilda Greenwood of Radnor Street on 18 September 1919. He was 29 years of age at the time of marriage, she was 18.
