Edward Jones (SN 6368) born at Clunes, was a 23 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 20th 1916. On November 23rd he embarked aboard the Hororata for service with the 22nd Infantry Battalion. Soon after arriving in England he was charged with being absent without leave for four days in London. It was not until November 1917 that he crossed to the battle front in France. In August 1918 he was transferred to the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion then in October he received a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was evacuated to hospital in England. When the war ended, he returned to Australia aboard the Friedrichsruh, disembarked at Melbourne on March 9th 1920 and was discharged on April 23rd.
