Biography

Hylton Ernest Williams was a single 18 year old student from Ballarat when he enlisted on the 8th of March 1917. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney on the 9th of November 1917. On the 22nd of August 1917 he was appointed Acting Corporal. On the 9th of November 1917 Hylton was appointed to Voyage Only Corporal and then Voyage Only Sergeant. He reverted back to gunner on the 5th of January 1918. On October 20th 1918 he was wounded after being gassed. He was admitted to hospital for gas poisoning on the 24th of October. Hylton returned to Australia on the 2nd of July 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 25th of July 1919.
