Chaplain Bertram Hockings Dewhurst born at Clunes was 30 years old clerk in holy orders when he enlisted in London on August 21st 1918 with the Australian Army Chaplain's service. A month later he crossed to France attached to the 8th Australian Infantry Brigade with whom he served until hostilities ceased. In January 1919 he was attached to the 32nd Battalion. In London on July 22nd 1919 he resigned from his chaplaincy role to resume his studies and was demobilised on August 2nd.
