Biography

Ernest lvey Robinson Coffey (SN 1816) was born in Ballarat and attended the Urquhart Street and Pleasant Street State Schools. He was a single miner when he enlisted in Brisbane on December 23rd 1914. His unit left Brisbane on board the Star of England in April 1915. He joined the 15th Infantry Battalion at Gallipoli in June but was killed in action just two months later at Chocolate Hills to the north of Anzac Cove, on August 8th 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Australian memorial at Lone Pine. He was 23 years old.
