Biography

Ernest Angus "Gus" Brown (SN 3279A) was born at Mt. Egerton and attended the Dana Street State School in Ballarat. He was a bank clerk in Brisbane, when he enlisted in the 25th Infantry Battalion on August 6th 1915. He embarked from Australia on December 30th 1915 aboard the Itonas and was transferred to the 9th Infantry Battalion for service in France. He was 23 years of age when he was killed in action at Mouquet Farm near Pozieres on August 21st 1916. He is buried in the Pozieres British Cemetery and remembered on the honour board of the Dana Street State School.

His brother Roy also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
