Biography

Leslie Francis Knight was born in Kerang, VIC, living in Balalrat, and was a Labourer by trade when he enlisted in the 10th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement on 17 September 1915 at the age of 24. His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A28 Miltiades on 7 February 1916.

In July 1917 he transferred to the 50th Battalion in France and served there until he was attached for a time to the Anzac Light Railway Company. He returned to the 50th Battalion in June 1917 and survived the remainder of the war without major incident. He returned to Australia on the Konigin Luise, disembarking at Melbourne on August 13th 1919.
