Biography

CharIes Christian Snell was born in St Kilda, Victoria, was single and a Confectioner when he enlisted with the 8th Battalion, 11th Reinforcement on 5 July 1915 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on 11 October 1915. His record of his earlier service leading up to 1917 are unspecific, the first event of note being the fact, while serving as a Temporary Corporal, he was wounded in action on 7 May 1917. He was then sent to England, from there was returned to Australia and later discharged due to a 'defective heart' on 21 December 1917.
