Alexander Shearer (SN 3248) was born in Warrenheip where he attended the local state school. He enlisted at Geelong on September 13th 1915, as a 24 year old, single blacksmith. He joined the 15th Australian Machine Gun Company and embarked from Melbourne in November on board the Wiltshire. After some further training in Egypt, he arrived in France in June 1916. Only a few weeks later, he was killed in action at Fromelles on July 19th 1916. He is buried in Rue du Bois Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
