Angus MacLelland Bain (SN 98) was born in Scotland where he had served for 18 months with the Highland Artillery. As a 22 year old farmer, he enlisted in Ballarat on January 20th 1915. He trained with the 13th Light Horse Regiment and embarked from Melbourne on May 28th aboard the Persic. While in Egypt in March 1916 he was transferred to the 5th Division Cavalry but in June he moved to France to join the 1st Anzac Army Corps Light Horse Regiment. He came through the war without physical wounds, although he was hospitalised with laryngitis shortly after the fighting stopped. He returned to Australia on the Ypiringa and disembarked at Melbourne on January 4th 1920. He died in November 1967 aged 75.
