Biography

Alfred George Waldron (SN 2827) born in Melbourne, was a 28 year old single labourer when he
enlisted in Melbourne on July 16th 1915. On October 5th he embarked aboard the Moldavia and sailed
to Egypt where he was assigned to the 7th Infantry Battalion. He reached France in March 1916 and in
July he was wounded in action, gassed, and evacuated to hospital in England. He rejoined his unit in
France in February 1917 but on May 5th he was severely wounded when he suffered shrapnel wounds
that fractured his femur and pelvis. Dangerously ill, he was again evacuated to hospital in England
where it was determined he should be returned to Australia. He returned aboard the Euripides and
was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on Anzac Day 1918.

His brother John also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
