Biography

Cecil Bennetts (SN 13256) was an 18 year old ironmoulder from Nelson Street in Ballarat East when he enlisted in July 1915. In March 1916 he sailed from Melbourne on the Karoola to serve with the Australian Army Medical Corps, 12th Field Ambulance. For a period while in France has was transferred to the 12th Field Company Engineers with whom he was serving when he was wounded in action on June 11th 1917. His wound was minor and in August he was returned to the 12th Field Ambulance and saw out the final year of the war without serious illness or injury. He returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Nestor, reaching Melbourne on July 2nd 1919.
