Biography

Henry Stanley Brough (SN 3021) born in Ballarat, was a 23 year old carpenter when he enlisted in Geelong on July 20th 1915. He embarked aboard the Commonwealth on December 19th and sailed to Egypt where he was placed with the 58th Infantry Battalion. He moved on to England in October 1916 then in March 1917 he moved to France attached to the 21st Field Artillery Brigade. While he avoided battle wounds his health declined and he was returned to Australia aboard the Osterley, disembarked at Melbourne on April 13th 1918 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, tachycardia’ on May 21st.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Harry Brough.
