Biography

Percy John Renfree was born in Adelaide, SA, was married to Mrs Gladys Maud Renfree and working as a Grocer's driver in Sebastopol when he enlisted in the 8th Battalion, D Company on 25 August 1914 at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A24 Benalla on 19 October 1914 after suffering from a septic throat. He was wounded in action on 4 April 1916 having received a severe gunshot wound to the left arm which resulted in compound fracture. He was evacuated to hospital and later invalided to Australia on 13 February 1917.
