Biography

William Arthur Holtham was a single 18 year old student at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 17th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on the 7th of March 1916.
On the 26th of April 1916 he was promoted Lance Corporal. William was wounded in action on the 19th of July 1916 with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. On the 23rd of July 1916 he was invalided to the U.K and admitted to the Reading War Hospital in Reading, England.
On the 12th of January he was appointed Extra Duty Pay Sergeant.
On January 10th 1918 he was promoted to Lieutenant.
William returned to Australia on the 16th of June 1919 and was discharged on the 31st of July 1919.
