Biography

George Edward Tilley was born in Hamilton. He was employed as a stockman when he enlisted in Queensland on 27th May 1915. He was 21 years old, single and had worked as a sailor. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No 2248. Later he transferred to the 9th Infantry Battalion and then again to the Australian Flying Corps. On 22nd April 1917 he died of wounds incurred during the fighting around Gaza. He is buried in Deir El Selah War Cemetery, Israel.
