Biography

Hugh Marcell Conran (Capt.) was born in London and was a 25 year old assayer when he joined the 1st A.I.F. at the rank of lieutenant on April 28th 1915. He embarked aboard the Euripides on May 10th and saw action at Gallipoli with the 23rd Infantry Battalion. He was promoted to captain in February 1916 before being moved to France. In July 1916 he was wounded in action, suffering a gunshot wound to his left arm. He was evacuated to hospital in England where it was decided he should be returned to Australia. He returned aboard the Wiltshire, embarked at Melbourne on December 31st 1916 and his appointment was terminated on May 16th 1917. He served again in WW2 with service number V50227.
