Biography

Robert Benson (SN 3685) was born at Glen Park and educated at the local state school. He was a 21-year-old labourer when he enlisted on August 9th 1915. He trained at Castlemaine and Ballarat before embarking aboard the Ceramic on November 23rd. While in Egypt he was posted to the 46th Battalion before moving on to France in June 1916. He was killed in action near Bullecourt on February 15th 1917 and is buried in the Bancourt British Cemetery and is remembered on the honour board of the Glen Park State School. He was 23 years of age.
