Biography

Moreland Stanley Tolliday was born in Ballarat East, Victoria, was single and an Ironmoulder when he enlisted with the 8th Battalion, G Company on 14 September 1914 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A24 Benalla on 19 October 1914. He was admonished in July for absenting himself without leave and again in August for 'conduct prejudicial to good order & military discipline.' Later that month he was admitted to hospital for illness (dysentery) and later diagnosed with colitis. On 1 October 1915 he was transferred to Suez from Montazah Port Said for invaliding to Australia. He returned per the Hospital Transport Wandilla on 13 December 1915.
