Biography

Harold Linsday Sells was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Clerk when he enlisted in the Army Field Post Office Details (November 1915) on 17 August 1915 at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Medina on 2 November 1915. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant on 8 March 1916 with the Australian Army Postal Corps before being hospitalised with swollen glands in neck. In July 1917 he was diagnosed with malaria. According to his medical reports the Board recommended he be permanently unfit for general service. He returned to Australia 18 October 1917.
