Biography

Harry Herbert Thompson was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Motor Driver when he enlisted with the 1st Battalion, 13th Reinforcement on 25 September at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on 20 December 1915. While serving as a Driver he suffered a mustard gas attack on 14 April 1916 and was hospitalised. He transferred to Alexandria and eventually to England for recovery until he was able to re-join his unit on 16 August 1917. His records after that show little activity, suggesting he completed his service without further major incident, illness or injury, returning home to Australia 22 May 1919.
