Biography

Edward Hocking (SN 460/Lt.) was born in Ballarat and attended the Little Bendigo State School, but on January 17th1916 he enlisted at Boulder WA, where he was working as a miner. He was 39 years of age and married. He was posted to the 44th Infantry Battalion and left Australia in June on board the Suevic. He had been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant by the time was killed in action at Messines on June 9th1917. He has no known grave, and his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
