Biography

John Joseph Henry Goodwin (SN 24584) born in Melbourne, was a married 36 year old miner with two children when he enlisted in Tasmania on September 21st 1915. He embarked aboard the Barambah on June 27th 1916, finally reaching France in November to serve with the 3rd Division Ammunition Column. On June 7th 1917 he received a severe gunshot wound to the abdomen and was evacuated to hospital in England. The severity of the wound ended his active service. He left England on November 5th aboard the Themistocles, reached Melbourne on New Year’s Eve and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on February 5th 1918.
