Biography

Bernard Griffiths Slocombe (SN 6592) was born in Buchan and attended the local state school. The 24 year old, married farm hand enlisted at Prahran on March 6th 1916. He was assigned to the 6th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in early October on board the Nestor. After three months in England, he arrived in France to join the 6th Battalion in March 1917. On October 4th 1917 he was killed in action at Broodseinde. He has no known grave and his name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
