Biography

Anton Kiehl (SN 2020) was born at Maryborough and enlisted in Melbourne on September 15th 1914. 33 years old, single, and employed as a bank clerk, he was posted to the 2nd Australian Field Ambulance and embarked from Melbourne in December, on board the Berrima. After transferring to 1st Division Headquarters in April 1915, he was killed in Shrapnel Gully, on Gallipoli, on May 19th 1915. He is buried in the 4th Battalion Parade Ground Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Anton Keihl.
