William Charles Finnis (SN51976 / Maj.) born in Ballarat, was a married career soldier when he enlisted in New Zealand in April 1917. Serving with the NZ 2nd Battalion he suffered a shrapnel wound to his buttock in December 1917. At war’s end he returned to New Zealand aboard the Ruapehu and was discharged on March 21st 1919.
