William Gordon Crosbie (SN 1645) born at Ballarat was a married 36 year old railway worker when he enlisted in Ararat on March 1st 1916. Assigned to the 60th Battalion he embarked from Melbourne on May 4th and sailed to England aboard the Port Lincoln. In December 1916 he was transferred to France to reinforce the 58th Battalion. Twelve months later in November 1917 he was transferred to the Australian Employment Company. After the war he returned to Australia on the Takada, disembarked at Melbourne on February 11th 1919 and was discharged ‘medically unfit – chronic arthritis’ on March 21st.
