Biography

William Budge (SN 5053) was born in Ballarat and educated at Queen Street State School. He enlisted on January 31st 1916, a 39 year old labourer at that time. He trained initially with the 8th Battalion and embarked aboard the Suffolk on April 1st 1916. He had been transferred to the 46th Battalion by the time he reached the battlefields of the Western Front. On April 11th 1917, at 40 years of age,he was killed in action at Bullecourt. He has no known grave, and is remembered on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France, and on the honour board of the Queen Street State School.
