Stanley Nettleton Mason (SN 5632) born at Beaufort, was a 23 year old carpenter when he enlisted in New South Wales on February 17th 1916. Assigned to the 18th Infantry Battalion he embarked from Sydney aboard the Euripides on September 9th and reached the battlefields of France in December. He avoided combat wounds but was hospitalised with pneumonia in 1917 and was dangerously ill with influenza just prior to his return to Australia.
