Biography

Frederic Percy Williams was the Acting Vicar of Christ Church in Warrnambool when he enlisted on March 1st, 1916. Leaving behind a wife and young son, the 37 year old Ballarat born clergyman embarked from Melbourne aboard the Orsova just two weeks later. While serving as a Chaplain with the 58th Battalion in France, he was accidentally injured and admitted to the 3rd London General Hospital with a fractured right elbow in June 1917. After rejoining his unit, he was awarded the Military Cross on October 28th 1917 for "distinguished service in the field". Leaving the 58th Battalion in March the following year, he was promoted to Chaplain 3rd Class and transferred to the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station. He returned to Australia aboard the Ulysses, disembarking in Melbourne in March 1919. He re-embarked on the same ship a month later after which he served as a chaplain on the Port Lincoln. His appointment was terminated on November 6th 1919.
