Alan Norman Edwards was born in Ballarat and joined from Ballarat East, on 13th March 1916. He was a 22 year old unmarried clerk. He enlisted in the 58th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 1655. After training he was appointed Lance Corporal. He was killed in action at Polygon Wood on 25th September 1917, and his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
