Biography

Leslie Neil Laverty (SN 14262) born in Ballarat, was a 25 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on April 13th 1916. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Clan Macgillivray on May 10th then transferred to the Borda at Fremantle. He sailed to England then in February 1918 he was moved to France to serve with the 4th Division Ammunition Column. He avoided combat wounds but was troubled by bronchitis and was returned to Australia aboard the Plassy. He disembarked at Melbourne on April 30th 1919 and was discharged medically unfit on May 30th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number N199870.
