Harold Edward Trethowan (SN 3930) was born in Melbourne but attended the Brown Hill State School. He enlisted in Ballarat on August 7th 1915 as a carpenter, 24 years old and unmarried. He was allocated to the 46th Infantry Battalion and embarked for active service on November 23rd aboard the Ceramic. After further training in Egypt he reached France in June 1916. During his service he was promoted Lance Sergeant. On April 11th 1917 he was killed in action near Bullecourt and with no known grave, his name is on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
