Biography

Richard Charles Wilks (SN 6116) born at Ballan, was a 34 year old married butcher when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 18th 1916. Assigned to the 39th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Themistocles on July 20th and in November he joined the battalion in France. During his service he was wounded twice. In June 1917 he was gassed and in July 1918 he sustained a mild ankle wound. He returned to Australia aboard the Kyber, disembarked on May 22nd 1919 and was discharged on June 29th.
