William Edgar Thompson was born in Ballarat, but enlisted as a blacksmith at Scarsdale on 13th January 1916. He was 22 years of age and single. He was posted to the 21st Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 4233. On 20th March 1917 he was killed in the Longueval area. His name is on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France
