Biography

William Edgar Thompson (SN 4233) was born in Ballarat and attended the Scarsdale State School. He was a 22 year old blacksmith when he enlisted in Ballarat on January 13th 1916. He was posted to the 21st Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in March. On March 20th 1917 he was killed in the Longueval area. With no known grave, his name is on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France
