Born in Ballarat, George Ernest Hawker was a single 21 year old butcher at the time of his enlistment on the 6th of March 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916.
George was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 10th of December 1918. On the 1st of August 1919, he was promoted to Extra Regimental Sergeant.
George returned to Australia on the 19th of June 1920 and was discharged on the 2nd of September 1920.
