James Lewis Nicholls (SN 102) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Urquhart Street State School. He was a clerk living in Albert Park when he enlisted on March 28th 1916. He was 24 years old and single. He was drafted to 10th Machine Gun Company and embarked in late May for active service. On September 3rd 1918 he died of wounds received at Mont St Quentin and is buried in St Sever Extension, Rouen. He was 26 years of age.
